On a rainy day in Jakarta, Ken and I headed over to a restaurant called Nasi Gandul IBu Endang, somewhere in the western part of Jakarta. The restaurant is a neighborhood restaurant known for serving a famous Indonesian dish, originally from Yogyakarta, called Gudeg, or Nasi Gudeg (because it’s served with rice). Gudeg is a jackfruit stew where the jackfruit is cooked for so long that it turns silky soft. It’s a bit of a sweet dish, but what I enjoyed so much about it was that it was so unique when paired with all the other different ingredients. The cowskin curry in particular was quite delicious.
Another dish they specialize in at Nasi Gandul IBu Endang is Nasi Rawon which is a black beef stew made with keluak nuts. I was a huge fan of the rawon, it has a rich and an amazing flavor and you eat it together with baby bean sprouts, lime juice, and sambal chili sauce. We also enjoyed a few other Indonesian dishes during out. meal at Nasi Gandul IBu Endang.
For our next stop, we headed over to Rumah Durian Harum, a well known spot for durian. They had just about every kind of durian you treat you can imagine, from durian juice to durian ice cream to fresh durian. We had the durian ice and a couple of fresh durian, all of which were pretty good and a nice way to end the evening.

Been a very rainy afternoon but it looks like the rain has just cleared and we are at our hotel now and our friend Ken who is a local blogger here he’s coming to come pick us up and we are on our way

Minutes and we’re at a restaurant that is called nasi Gundel and this is a restaurant that specializes in a bunch of different dishes it’s just nothing under EBU and EBU and now is the owner of the place this is a Javanese yeah Javanese out and we just
Ordered a couple of the different dishes especially the famous well-known dishes that this restaurant serves this one is called nasi erawan so you guys the the soup basically is a beef soup and it’s thick and it’s kind of sweet and you eat it with a bean sprout and
The lime juice and then with some sambal yep and you normally put this into the super do you mix all together with the rice and the soup the method of eating this dish is to really mix it up with the rice so it’s kind of soupy that good
A good consistency there yeah I’ll get put some Liz Browz and then season with these little bean sprouts squeeze some lime on there like almost porridge style oh yeah it has a little bit of a like a Chinese braised flavor to it but light and really really Pleasant a very smooth
Beef broth and those little bean sprouts are really good as well they’re kind of fresh yeah they’re kind of kind of juicy I’m going to taste some more of those bean sprouts so I can get a good taste of them those are just those are baby screen Queens sprouts anything up okay
Was there a little bit shrimp paste in that sambal oh it’s really good that is just an entire plastic container full of extra meat parts normally when you come to a restaurant like this and you see a communal plate either some garnishing vegetables or some sauces but
Here you come and they have an entire extra plate of communal meat sitting in the middle of the table so you can just grab some extra meat there are some eggs in there and some meat parts which have all been already cooked in the sauce and
You can if you’re if you’re feeling like some extra protein you can just grab as much as you want we’re gonna move into the meat bucket here and what are you taking I’m taking the intestines okay I’m gonna take one of these pieces which it’s called limpa limpa I’m not even

Yeah sweet oh my god that is sweeter it definitely has a little bit of a gummy texture to it it’s chewy and soft and gooey all at the same time you like I’m kind of sticky and it’s good and very grassy tasting as well here men have another that’s definitely an interesting part
We’re going to move over to the next dish and what is this dish called let’s go gotta Assam got on Casa got onions kind of looks scary and then awesome in sour it’s really really a cool packet of food and is it is it steamed in the

Visited Indonesia but honestly I can say the only food I enjoyed there was the Balinese ones, all others are either sweet or too much raw coconut milk. Bad tasting food. I ended up eating at fast food restaurants like McDonalds and Shakeys lolz
