Thandiani is characterized by excellent weather and lush greenery in the summer months, and snow-covered vistas and hills in the winter. Many tourists from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and all over Pakistan visit here, especially in the summer season. Being at a high altitude, with attractive scenery and several hiking trails into the forests and other nearby locations, it is a very attractive prospect.
Thandiani (literally meaning “very cold”) is a hill station in the Galyat area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa the Province of Pakistan. Thandiani is located in the northeast of Abbottabad District and is about 37.5 kilometres (23.3 mi) from Abbottabad in the foothills of the Himalayas.[1][2] To the east beyond the Kunhar River lies the snow-covered Pir Panjal mountain range of Kashmir. Visible to the north and northeast are the mountains of Kohistan and Kaghan. To the northwest are the snowy ranges of Swat and Chitral. The hills of Thandiani are about 2,750 metres (9,020 ft) above sea level

In Grip on Trip’s new journey, we are going to Thandiani which is situated near Abbotabad. This is a famous picnic spot of this area. A big number of people from all over Pakistan visit it every year. There are 2 routes to reach Abbotabad from Islamabad. First one is Hazara Expressway and second Karakoram

Highway. Both routes are about 155 km long. You can save 40 to 45 minutes if you travel through Hazara Expressway. The weather has turned uncertain. We have turned right for Thandiani and have found strong sunshine. A passing by tourist told me that it’s raining on top.

So there is sunshine and rain as well. Let’s see what we find when we reach there. I wish it would not be heavy rain. Heavy rain will not let us do out work properly and we do not have umbrella as well. Clouds are in patches on mountains. Where you find

Shadow, you feel overcast and then suddenly you come out of it and find sunshine. Thandiani is 32km away from Abbotabad. You cover this distance in about an hour and 20 minutes. Abbotabad is 4100 feet above sea level. This height reaches 9000 feet on Thandiani Top. Weather changes swiftly so take precautionary steps.

Keep umbrella and extra shoes with you and wear jacket or warm shawl. It’s 7:30 in the morning that’s why nobody stopped. It’s raining we did not carry umbrella. I have hidden my drone under this box. KPK government has built some huts for families and they are booked in advance.

The road was very beautiful. Thandiani Top’s road is a trip in itself. You enjoy a lot. Rain has made it great. Basically Thandiani is roof of Abbotabad. We have come to about 10000 feet in an hour or so. Let’s pray rain stops so that my drone may fly.

At Thandiani Top, you find 2 trails leading to jungle. There are scattered benches and some viewpoints. The most important news is that, drone is strictly prohibited here. Here is a broadcasting set up. Drone is banned. Foreigners can only come here by taking prior permission but no permission for drone.

If you come with family or alone, it is a great place. It’s name speaks for itself that it is a cold place. You experience big transformation of temp in an hour. There was heat in city and now we are feeling cold. I will walk a little more, take tea and eat chips.

If rain stops, I will roam about. You can find all mobile signals on Thandiani Top. There are hotels and restaurants. You can stay for a night from PKR 3000 to 10000. A car charges from PKR 2500 to 3500 for a round trip. It takes you back to Abbotabad.

KPK government has declared it a jungle. Wall boundary has been built and its area is about 4.5 acres. It is thick jungle of different trees and grass varieties. There are numerous types of flowers. There was board which shows detail of this jungle. As you go ahead, the jungle track thickens, so let’s leave.

Our tour is lush green today. Mashallah Mashallah greenery is all around. Greenery has conquered all. First of all, we need to correct ourselves. Leave complaining about the government. I always point it out sadly. People did bar b que here. See bottle, envelop, chips packet.

If you have done bar b que and dined here, you can carry these things with you. If it is your insult to carry in your vehicle, throw them into the dust bins at parking. Rain has just stopped. One eats Pakoray but chips was available with tea. Will eat chips.

It is tasty as they have added chaat masalah. 1km before Thandiani Top, there is a mosque, and a board which tells about a very eco friendly initiative for tourism of KPK government. Huts and family lodges have been built on the top. Here is a board and this road

Leads to these huts and lodges. Do not take vehicle, go on foot. They are closed these days, lets check them. I am standing at camping sights in Thandiani. I am happy to see that they fine PKR 500 if someone is caught throwing a plastic bag anywhere.

They have defined rules, you must adhere them strictly. You can imagine from my voice how quiet this place is. You will find peace of mind and greenery. Come out of busy routine of city and spend a couple of days here. Leave gadgets and enjoy nature only.

Listen the voices of different birds. They look at us from a difference but do not come closer, they seem camera shy. Now I will leave and have Chappal Kabab in Abbotabad. If I do not eat food, you start asking, “Why haven’t you eaten Butt sab, everything is alright?”

Will have Chappal Kabab there and end this journey in Abbotabad Inshallah. I have come down from Thandiani and felt a significant rise in temperature. We have switched on AC here but we were feeling cold on Thandiani in rain. Very juicy rice. Rice have been cooked in the soup of meat and carrots
