You guys look awesome out there uh 038 043 divisions you look sharp as well all right so good morning thank C froberg for your introduction welcome to all the distinguished guests and most importantly family and friends of these Sailors and ranks today it’s a great privilege to join you today to welcome
These young men and women as the newest Sailors in the world’s finest Navy I realize that this is an exciting day and that many of you are exhausted excited and really just thinking of seeing your family and friends I must confess I felt the same way when I went through my
Commission ceremony way back in September of 99 which seems like only a week ago but if you bear with me for just a few minutes I hope to impart a little bit of knowledge mentoring coaching and advice I want to focus on four things teamwork leadership education and perseverance
No one can succeed on their own many times as each of you saw when dealing with floods fires and other challenges is that you only succeed utilizing teamwork while you may not recognize it this has been true of your whole life through support your family your friends your teachers and others who have
Supported you and provided many opportunities for you to succeed as important as teamwork is leadership you’ve been surrounded by leaders your whole life you’ve been guided and molded by them making you the person you are today leaders who have mentored and coached you throughout your life for the last 10 weeks you were
Introduced to a new type of leader and a new type of leadership in addition to the mentorship coaching and support these leaders provide instruction and orders and in return expect good order and discipline I wish I could tell you that you always have great leaders but that just isn’t true
Do not allow poor leadership to disenfranchise you seek out good leaders that do exist in each command for mentorship coaching and support also know that leadership knows no ranks you can be a leader that others look to to do the right thing and provide the right example for others to learn
From most of your life has also been involved in education I hate to tell you this but it’s not over as you start the next chapter in your life there’s going to be continued interest in education education and particular training have been the Mantra that is born in Blood
And Tears handed down to each of us new generation from Sailors who have gone before us the training you receive here and continue to receive over the next several weeks months and years has never been more critical than in today’s environment always be inquisitive never stop learning lastly I want to speak of
Perseverance you are stronger than you think you have survived one of the toughest things young men and women can do in this country which is complete boot camp of the 3.5 million high school students who graduated last year less than 1% can make it to this point you’re
The best America has to offer there will be challenging times ahead of you times where you feel defeated and want to give up don’t if you can survive who camp you can survive anything You Are Not Alone your friends your family your fellow Sailors and your leaders are there to
Support you don’t ever give up on yourself don’t ever let a shipmate give up on themselves either we are stronger with you than without you don’t give up the ship you may or may not be aware but Sailors just like you who were standing less than a year ago here are now aboard
US Navy warships in the Red Sea that have survived numerous attacks shot down numerous enemy missiles and drones by using teamer learning the raped following their leaders and persevering through many challenges they have faced they have survived if you do the same you will also succeed to the parents
Families and friends I want to thank each and every one of you for the integral role you have played in your sailor’s success you help shape your recruit in a person who wanted to stand up for their country who understands the Navy core values of Honor courage and
Commitment we now welcome all of you into the Navy family in June of 1999 almost 25 years ago I first put on my first Navy uniform like you I made a choice into the profession of arms and to serve our great nation each of you has selflessly
Answered the call of duty to serve a CA greater than your own you have passed every test triumphed over every Challenge and proven yourself worthy of wearing the uniform that symbolizes Freedom throughout the world the uniform of the United States Navy whether you stay for 5 years or 30 you have joined
An exclusive fraternity of those who have chosen the path of service Sailors I can tell you from experience that you’re about to embark on one of the most challenging and exciting Adventures of your life but I can also tell you that Your Service With Honor keep the face with your fellowship mates and
Strive for excellence in everything you do it’ll also be one of the most rewarded you’ve chosen to serve your country at a time when it is most needed when America shows a strong presence throughout the world on the Seas and in the skies you’ve taken on the task of
Defending our nation and the instructors and staff here at RTC have done a masterful job of preparing you for tremendous duties and and responsibility you have earned not only their respect but also mine and that of a Grateful Nation includes not as a Navy Captain but as a fellow American and a
