Kyoto Surrounds Tour! Sakamoto Cable Car, Mt Hiei and the Historic Stone Bridges of Lake Biwa

In October 2017, we travelled by city tram from Kyoto to Otsu then to Sakamoto Station on the shores of Lake Biwa. After a scenic walk along ancient stone lined streets, we found then boarded the Sakamoto Cable Car which carried us up to the ancient Enryaku-ji Temple on the summit of Mt Hiei.

From My Hiei, you can return to Otsu & Kyoto by the way you came or better still, walk cross the summit of Mt Hiei and descent the cableway, funicular then take the railway down to Kurama Onsen or straight back to Kyoto. (full text description in the the video)

Don’t forget to seek out the three hidden stone bridges near base of the Sakamoto cable car bottom station.
