Hey everyone! Welcome to our latest video where we take you on an exciting/scary trip to Brunei. This place has been in the news a lot, and we wanted to see what it’s really like beyond what everyone talks about. So, we kicked off our adventure wanting to dive into the real Brunei – from its strict laws to its incredible wealth. It’s a country that’s caught between its rich traditions and some pretty tough rules. But what really blew us away was how friendly and welcoming the people are.

We got to check out the Sultan’s massive palace, which is just mind-blowing with all its luxury. But it’s not all about the glitz here; we also saw how the country takes care of its people, with free schooling and healthcare, which is pretty awesome. Our journey took us through bustling markets where everything’s super cheap, beautiful mosques covered in gold, and even into the lives of the locals who invited us to share a meal with them. It was these moments that really made our trip special.

We also got a peek into the less flashy side of Brunei, visiting a water village and seeing how people live in houses on stilts right over the water. It felt like stepping into a whole different world. This video is all about showing you the real Brunei – from the fancy bits to the simple, everyday life of its people. We’re here to share our experiences, the cool places we’ve seen, the delicious food we’ve tried, and the amazing people we’ve met along the way.

So, come along with us as we explore Brunei, see its sights, taste its food, and meet some of the kindest people. It’s been an eye-opening trip for us, and we can’t wait to share all our stories with you. Thanks for watching, and don’t forget to hit that subscribe button for more adventures around the world. Let’s keep it real and explore together!

Brunai brunai brunai brunai brunai brunai  a controversial country that I decided to   travel to where they amputate their own citizens  arms and stone gay people to death I decided to   travel to this country to experience what it  was really like beyond the headlines so let’s

Get into it Rai where new laws based on a strict  interpretation of Islam go into effect today the   new code would commit gay people caught having  to death by stoning around a decade ago brunai   stirred up controversy with the introduction  of the Sharia Penal Code law this move raised

Questions and led to some content creators on  YouTube painting a less favorable picture of   the country even without firstand experience  however our team has decided to move beyond   the headlines to explore the nuances of brunai  and to uncover the realities that lie beneath

The surface we’ll provide a glimpse into life in a  place where night life may be limited considering   that one of the world’s wealthiest individuals  Sultan Hassan Al bolia possesses a substantial   net worth of $20 billion questions naturally  arise if the sultan were to distribute just

Half of his wealth among the citizens each  person would receive a considerable sum of [Music] $3,255 as a travel vlogger my objective  is to connect with people it was the warmth and   Hospitality of bruni’s well-educated populace  that made a significant impact during visit join

Us in this journey to challenge preconceptions  and unveil the hidden gems of brunai a nation   that has been a topic of debate where wealth  disparities and controversy intersect with a   rich cultural tapestry and a warm welcome  let’s explore this unique destination

[Music] together okay so right now we are  out the front of the Sultan’s Palace king   of Bruni the king here is the prime minister the  Finance Minister the education Minister he runs   the entire show behind me is actually one of the  largest residential palaces in the entire world

Now a little bit of information about the king  his name is actually so long that uh our guide   couldn’t even remember the full name so as you  can see here behind me these are the guards that

Stand there for 2 hours on rotation with the gun  they stand there they don’t move similar to the   royal family in London actually I just asked  our guide and they have 700 plus rooms here   and the entire Palace costs 1.8 billion us to  build which is just absolutely insane to think

About the king provides uh free education and  Healthcare right yes does the sultan provide   free University as well um Yes W do yeah that’s  really cool he’s like he’s really doing a good   thing for the people so our guide Marge was just  saying that the brunai dollar is actually printed

In Australia and I do actually have some  Australian dollars here so you can see that   well you can’t feel it but these both feel very  similar you can see here the clear and then the   clear as well so it sort of makes sense very  very interesting that that this is printed in

Australia yeah isn’t there every family has  three and 1 half cars or something something   like that minimum three to five cars wow is it  very affordable to buy cars yes yes relatively   cheaper than other countries I wonder what  they do with the half [Music] car hello how

Are you welcome brunow welcome to brunai thank  you what what is this this one beef L beef black   okay okay this one lamb lamb chicken Jer wow  nice uh could I get uh two lamb two lamb sa

Honey or barbecue uh barbecue please barue  I can’t help myself I got to I got to get something how much2 Okay YouTube Sir oh yeah  yeah YouTube yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah I’m   making a video about brunai okay thank you thank  you thank you so much okay bye bye people here

Are so nice she was asking me what I’m doing  is this for YouTube Welcome to brunai what a   lovely lovely lady okay let’s see what else we  can get I’ve got my lamb barbecue sticks here   they have chicken and rice chicken rice with  a roasted chicken and steamed chicken oh nice

How much for one it’s a uh $2 $2 okay I’ll  get uh one please this one looks good okay   sure what are we just SCH uh yes please okay  very good price only $2 that’s like about a150

Us thank you yes are you a streamer uh I’m a  YouTuber YouTuber what kind of your YouTuber   uh I’m like a travel YouTuber travel YouTuber  yeah yeah my my channel name is Jack T Jack j

A c k t t o yes okay thank you I will Sub sub  and thank you so much thank you have enjoy   wow everyone here is so nice everyone’s  asking me what I’m doing and wow so so lovely Okay so we’ve now just arrived at  the Sultan’s mosque now these domes up the

Top are actually real gold at 24 karat gold  now I just want to point out as you can see   we’re the only people here it is so quiet  here so if you’re coming as a tourist you   have everything to yourself so yeah this  should be really cool to go in and check

It out uh this is the biggest mosque here  in [Music] brine okay so first things first   we take our shoes off and we have to wear  some type of robe to cover our shoulders   and our uh our legs cuz we’re not wearing  long pants so let’s go do that now [Music]

Look like Harry Potter yeah I do I feel like  we’re about to walk into [Music] Hogwarts okay   so we’re just walking into the beautiful  mosque here now and uh we just learned   about what the Muslim men do before they  enter the mosque they recite a prayer they

Rinse out their mouth they wash their face  they wash their hands heap of other things   before they enter the prayer Hall which I  think is done all around the world in uh   Islam so very interesting but this uh glass  roof up here is so beautiful let me show

[Music] you wow so we’re now in the prayer Hall  there is no one here we’ve got the carpet on   the ground too just behind me here this massive  chandelier is 3.2 tons of gold the middle here

As well is gold as well so these carpets here you  can see all of the different squares right every   square is for one person this entire room can fit  5,000 people which is absolutely insane so uh when

They come and do the prayer here is there someone  also at the front like teaching about Islam okay   the one the one sitting there with the chair yeah  I never really knew how that worked in Islam uh

I’ve only ever seen people praying so the fact  that they also do sermons and read from the Quran   is really cool because it’s teaching about the  religion so that’s really [Music] nice so just   here behind me is actually the VIP escalator  used for the sultan is used for the Royals to

Come here and to pray and for all the VIP guests  so this is the VIP entrance and I believe that   there’s a prayer room just underneath us here  but our guide has never seen that because it’s

A VIP [Applause] area so I’ve only just realized  now I believe that this is the first mosque I’ve   ever been inside of correct me in the comments  if you’ve watched a lot of my videos but I don’t

Think I’ve ever been inside of Prayer hle in a  mosque before so this is a really cool honor to   be here in brunai so now we’re just exploring the  outside of the mosque here it’s so beautiful here   in brunai everything is really taken care of when  we’re driving down the street there’s gardeners

Mowing the side of the road there’s people picking  up trash it’s very neat very tidy reminds me a lot   of Singapore actually as you can see here it’s  so beautiful M I heard that imw kns to like Point

Like this yeah what’s what’s the best way of doing  it you have to point like this like this yeah okay   I want this one yeah cuz if you point fingers  it’s uh very rude okay is is this okay or no uh

This okay yeah as long as you’re done just like  so like say if you go to the store and you talk   to someone what would you talk in just standard  Malay you can speak in standard Malay they would

Understand better yeah okay yeah because it’s like  a shared language you know okay is that what you   do or do you speak in more local I usually speak  brunai M but there’s brunai M there’s Malaysian   Malay but there’s also standard Malay wow that’s  really interesting so there’s all different types

Of sort of Malay Spoken Here different dialects  but uh everyone sort of understands the standard   Malay which is obviously really helpful Okay so  we’ve just stopped and the light I don’t know if   you can see that the light has turned green but  no one’s going because they’ve put cones in front

Of everyone’s cars every Sunday they close off  the roads but we’re really confused cuz we’re   now stuck and there’s all people here stuck  as well and we can’t get out like there’s cars   either side of us so I don’t know what’s going to  happen I’ll keep you guys updated Okay so we’ve

Managed to reverse out I think everyone else is  getting the idea come oh well we’re free now we’re moving and what would be your favorite  thing about living in brunai well I like   it to stay here because it’s very safe calm  you know and also the cost of leaving here is

Cheaper so we just went past the  laau here which is the uh Royal   ceremony Hall which is where the King was  actually coronated in 1967 so yeah really   interesting I thought it might have  been done in the palace but no it was

Done here oh this is a for the Buddhist  okay the Chinese Chinese Buddhist yeah okay okay so right now we’ve just arrived to  brunai the biggest Open Air Market and they   sell a whole heap of different things here they  sell fruit they sell veg so just here we have

What they call a bitter melon which isn’t sweet  but savory one fact for you guys is in brunai it   actually has the highest obesity rate in Southeast  Asia at 14% or is it in the entire world I’m not

Sure let me let me confirm that people under 25  years of age the obesity rate is 50% and this   is due to a lot of uh preservative food being  imported because brunai doesn’t produce much

Food a lot of it has to be imported therefore  there’s a lot of fat and a lot of sugar in the   food but here they have everything so I guess it  comes from either Malaysia all their growing stuff

Here one thing I want to talk about is uh  this morning I actually ran out of hair gel   and I went to a barber shop just before we  started this tour and I got my hair gelled   and when I went to pay they said don’t  worry about it it’s all good it’s free

I’m like wow such great first impressions of  the people of brunai the people here are so   friendly there is a lot of news articles  about the government here but I come to a   country to explore the places and the people  not what the government is the government is

Not the people and that’s definitely proven  from what I experienced this morning with that another funny thing here is I’ve also noticed  everything is1 or $2 like everything that’s really   funny how much is it $1 how much is it $2 just  depends hello uh should I get uh how much $1

Okay everything seems to be1 or2 here this is $1  oh both wow that’s so much wow thank you thank you   here we go okay thank you thank you so much wow  so all of these bananas here I just bought for

One brunai dollar so I don’t know if you guys saw  that on film but I picked up one bunch of bananas   thinking that was a dollar and she said oh sir  it’s the other Bunch as well so she’s being so

Honest like she could have just let me take that  I’m just blown away so so affordable hello people   here are so friendly okay so I’m about to try the  local brunai banana here let’s give this a go oh

Yeah the the little bananas are always very  sweet and really really nice m so what’s the   average uh monthly salary well if you are working  in the government if you are in the good position

There’s a minimum $2,000 Bai dollars wow for labor  around 550 [Music] okay okay so now we are at what   they say is the most beautiful mosque in all  of Southeast Asia now this mosque was actually   designed by the sultan the King’s father who  uh has now passed away but he designed and

Built this during his Reign so this mosque is  actually 65 years old and for its age it looks   very very good it hasn’t aged at [Music] all okay  so right now we’re actually doing a little bit of

A exclusive activity that’s only available here on  Sundays to check out the local Sunday Road market   now they block off the entire Road and they open  up a market where people have their own little   stores they sell clothing they sell drinks they  sell everything you can think of so yeah I can’t

Wait to sort of show you these stores and see what  the real local life and the vibe is like here in brunai running around brunai made Matt and  myself very sleepy so we decided to buy one

Of these drinks but before that let me tell you  something that helps with my sleep speaking of   sleep have you ever struggled to get rest when  you’re traveling on a busy bus or busy train   with the lights beaming in well I sure have and  that’s where the mantis sleep mask comes in these

Two blue straps right here align the speakers to  your ears so you can play truly relaxing music as   you sleep not only is this mask super lightweight  and comfy but it also has adjustable eye cups so

You can place it exactly where you want according  to where your eyes are on your face and the eye   cups are super squishy and breathable also if  you’re someone who likes taking naps and you’re

Sleeping during the daytime then it might be a  bit hard to sleep with all the light coming in the   mantis sleep mask definitely fixes that issue with  100% blackout light remember your body truly does   deserve the best and the mantis sleep mask does  just that now here’s the exciting part you can

Get a discount using my code Jack tour at checkout  not only does this help out me but also helps out   you guys to save some money on your first purchase  with one of these bad boys right here how much is

This $1 $1 wow $1 everything is $1 here this is a  smash banana fre wow five pieces for $1 wow we got   to get some so yeah we should yeah Okay so we’ve  just got the drink here for $1 let’s give this a

Taste oh very nice she just gave us a uh extra  fried smashed banana fried up so let’s give this   a taste yeah really good it’s sort of like  a bread on the outside with smashed banana

On the inside and then fried crisp H really good  not too much stuff is made here in brunai being   such a small country they can afford to import  everything because brunai is very very rich in   oil if you didn’t know that so our guide  was saying before that it’s only 50 cents

Per liter of oil which is heavily subsidized  by the government because of brunai such oil   Rich nation and that’s how the sultan the king  that’s how he has so much money it’s because   of the oil but they’ve even got jeans here  too now when can you get a pair of jeans for

[Music] $7 so I just wanted to talk about  this mall behind me this is actually owned   by the selton the king and any rent that comes  from this mall doesn’t go into his pocket but   into local charities of bruny helping like single  mothers helping um people who are disadvantaged by

Income and a whole heap of other different  things so right here behind me is actually   what they call the Venice of the East the largest  water Village in the world and we’re about to go [Music] there so just here behind me they actually  have the water taxis that go from the mainland to

The water village now you would think with such  a rich country why would they just build a bridge   to the Village well the answer is they actually  deliberately not because they’re preserving the   culture here and it’s great for tourism as  well I think our tourism boat is just here

This tour’s been great by the way it’s just me  and Matt and our guide which is really really   cool it’s real one-on-one [Music] experience  okay so we’re now just walking onto the boat   hello how are you good that’s good okay so we  got to keep the boat balanced so I’ve got to

Sit on one side Matt’s got to sit on the  other okay cool let’s [Music] go so just   here is one of the uh mosques so even on the  water Village they still have mosqu which is so

Cool so just here is a school so as well  as the mosque they also have a medical   clinic at school even a general store so  you really don’t have to go back to land   so right here they have a fire station and  then also another mosque as well so even a

Fire station on the water Village there’s not  enough water every everywhere to put out a fire okay we’re getting off now Okay so we’ve just officially arrived  to the water Village here as you can see   we are on the walkway I’ll tried to look  where I’m going I almost walked off the

Edge there there’s no railing yeah this is  where the houses of the local people [Music] are wow they even have pigeons here doves look  at these guys right now we’re going into a   Local’s house to uh eat some food so let’s go in  this looks so lovely to the house yeah wow thank

You so the owner actually is the the also the  owner of the boat that we were on just now oh   okay wow yeah so he do this uh business to share  to tourists so that you also experience what they

Have experienced they have wow so many trophies  they have so many trophies they won it from the b   r wow this is so cool we’re just walking through  the uh their local L housee this is just how it

Is this is the local local experience I’ve got a  bird in here too hello bird and uh yeah this looks   to be their kitchen and then out here as well  out the back they’ve got their boats too which

They use for boat racing so all of those medals  that we saw all of those cups were actually from   winning boat races and some of the prizes were  crazy $200 $300 you know almost a month’s wage

Sometimes depending on what type of work you do  here in brunai it’s really really cool to [Music] see so right now we’re about to try try some  local snacks now I believe this one is called

Salut the way we do it is we just unpeel it  like this very slowly and then we just eat   this little top bit here and this is made  out of NOA Leaf Lea n Leafa okay with rice

Uh rice flour as well oh yeah nice right  really good yeah yeah yeah yeah I really   like that it’s like very um it’s not too  sweet so this is called a dum so I’m going   to try this one wow it’s like crispy on  the outside a little bit gooey on the

Inside so we’re just leaving the local house  here now those snacks were really really good   I really loved it so you might be also thinking  like why would they want to live on the water   and how did they get here in the first place well  originally this area was really really well known

For uh fishing so it was once obviously a fishing  Village and the trees nearby as well provided a   source of uh fruit as well but nowadays A lot of  people just live here because of how calm it is as

Well so as well you can see this house here  behind me how how it’s almost falling apart   now our guide was saying if people leave  here if they leave their house and they   go to the mainland and if they decide to come  back and rebuild on that land it’s actually

Really hard to do because once they leave you  know that’s it and uh They Don’t Really allow   new people to come here and rebuild it’s only  the original people who passed down the land   by generation to generation that generation  can still live on this land so uh these big

Leaves here are actually used for what  we just ate uh as the outside wrapping   for it so yeah really interesting and these are  actually uh $2 if you want to sell this at the [Music] market guide was just saying then that  Brun has actually covered 70% of the country

In Forest which is crazy because bhan is also  the same so much like Bhutan brunai is actually   also um you know really environmentally friendly  and doing their job to you know bring down CO2 emission okay so right now we’re actually at a  five-star hotel you might be thinking Jack why

Are you taking us to a fivestar hotel this  place has a golf course a movie theater its   own swimming pool it’s one of the biggest  and best hotels probably in Southeast Asia   and because of that it’s became a tourist  attraction so let’s go in and check it

[Music] out first impressions of this place wow  this place is massive no wonder it’s a tourist   attraction so Japanese and Koreans fly to brunai  just to stay here and to go golfing swimming and   just enjoying the hotel because yes it’s a  five-star hotel but it’s with local prices

So the cheapest room here is only about $200 a  night which is really really good considering   you know some hotels in Los Angeles would be  about that for like a basic [Music] Hotel so   even behind me here people are getting married  this is the spot to be in brunai this hotel is

Actually owned by his majesty but it’s actually  privately operated so that’s why there’s so much   money pumped into this place like this is just  crazy look at this place it’s huge I’ll put here   how many uh Acres it is but this this is probably  the the nicest hotel I’ve ever seen [Music] before

[Music] just look at this they even have  their own private beach so in saying how   affordable it is I actually do have a room here  that is $24,000 Brun so about $20,000 per night   this hotel actually has 500 rooms all on the  property that you can stay in all different

Typ of room so really accommodating by the way  for anyone wondering no this isn’t sponsored   this is just part of our tour and they take  a lot of guests here all the time because it   is so [Music] Grand so they also have all  little souvenir shops and everything here

As well which is really nice so this hotel  literally has anything and everything you   will need so anyway let’s go on to the next  activity now brunai I’m really liking you so far so we’ve now just arrived at the Museum of  Technology and it’s not the technology you think

Of we’re actually viewing the old villages and how  they used to be set up and everything like that   so I’m not going to bore you with a whole tour of  the place I’m just going to film a few Clips let’s go [Music] [Applause] Okay so we’ve now came to a local restaurant  here to check out some brunai cruisine Okay   so we’ve just came into the restaurant here and  I’ve ordered a hot lemon and honey tea just got

To mix the honey in here there’s so much of  it down the bottom look at that wow really   really nice and refreshing so here we’ve got  uh an appetizer so we just give this a taste

Dip this in here so this is the the the wild  F so also what we have here is it looks like   Chopsticks but it’s actually connected they  call this chandus so just here is pus so yeah   let’s give this a taste yum that’s like full  of flavor really really fresh so right here

We have romaan which is a uh deep fried marinated  local fish here okay let’s give this a taste that   is a kind of the that’s really really really  tastes really really really nice so it’s like

This you roll uhhuh and then you dip with the  sauce and then you have to make it cool a bit   first like this because it’s very hot so this  one you have to swallow straight away okay so

Now we’ve got the UMB boyant let’s give  this taste so you don’t chew it you just swallow very different but I can sort  of taste the sauce the um boyant itself   doesn’t really taste like much but  the the sauce here the the sball uh

Tastes quite good okay here we’ve just got  a standard chicken wing so let’s give this a taste M oh yeah this is just been fried  so it’s really hot but really crispy on   the outside juicy in the middle okay so I’ve  now tasted everything we’re just going to now

Dig into this and fill up for the rest of  the day cuz we’ve got a lot ahead Okay so   we’ve just finished up there that was  a really really good meal really tasty   I really liked trying all those different  Cuisines so right now what we’re going to

Do is get back in the car and then check  out some other stuff here in GRE [Music] KN so guys I think I found it we’ve just came  across donuts for those of you who don’t know

I used to work in a donut shop so this will be  some nostalgia for me let’s see how much they   are they’re probably just $1 each like everything  hey can I get uh one one chocolate donut $1 and

Uh this one as well yeah same two $2 okay see  I thought it would be $1 everything is $1 wow   so you can see the big walks that they have as  well for cooking thank you I have so many bags

Now I got to put it all together okay thank you  wow I’m rich I have so many notes okay where’s   Matt oh there he is by the way um for those  of you wondering you never see Matt on film

That’s because he doesn’t really like to be on  camera um which is for enough his choice so yeah   but look they have all different stuff here  too more chicken and rice chicken and cheese   have a lot of unhealthy food here as well but  I’m sure it’d be very delicious so yeah this

Market’s really Lively there’s a lot of smoke  as well but it’s not too bad because it’s open   air Market uh the government is actually in and  out of this Market all the time so the uh food

Standards are very high the health and safety of  food and how it’s managed which is really good   you know what I can smell though jurian hello is  this jurian yeah oh wow okay 15 for one yes oh

Okay okay uh this is Juan as well white Jan and  yellow white and yellow Juan okay cool thank you   I didn’t realize that there was a thing is white  and yellow jewan that is very affordable though   for that whole tub just $8 like that’s really  really affordable you’d be paying a mozer in

Any other country let me tell you so you can  see here that Burgers as well one burger for [Music] $150 so I just thought while we’re  in this market I might as well try one of   these lamb skewers here take a look at this  dripping in sauce let’s give give this a

Go that is really really good  super super tender too now I’m   going to have a sneaky bite of my donut  here don’t tell Matt let’s give this a taste oh yeah big chocolate M that’s going  to be a really good dessert so far so good

I’m going to finish this tonight when we get  back to our hotel because there’s not really   a eating area around here my camera by the way is  just sitting on this crate there go guys so I’ve

Got everything it’s all said and done Matt’s  got his stuff there so yeah thank you guys so   much for watching my first impressions here in  brunai just what a day wow the friendly people   you know the places we visited it’s actually blown  my mind this place is way more beautiful than what

I thought so thank you guys so much for watching  please like Please Subscribe because this ain’t   the only video here in brunai the next video we’re  going to be staying with a local family that lives   here in brunai so please watch that because I  am very excited for that we’re actually going

There in a few days time so yeah thank you guys  so much for watching and as always keep it real Cheers

  2. Barbaric, I will never go to a Muslim country that is ruled by sharid laws. Where they kill teenage girls just for not wearing a head cover. Always enjoy your videos Jack. Hope you are doing well.

  3. Hi Jack! Wonderful introductory vlog about Brunei. If you don't mind, I would like to share some more infos about Brunei.

    1. The sultan is not the Education Minister but he is the Defense Minister.
    2. Overseas education scholarships are free too if you achieve the required qualifications.
    3. We pay zero income tax.
    4. Free medical. You pay a dollar to see a doctor for treatment and medicines. If the treatment is not available in Brunei, the government will send you overseas fully subsidized for you and a family member to accompany you.
    5. Bandarku Ceria on Sundays is a must.
    6. Shariah Law is practiced by countries in Middle East for decades. Since it's implementation here, no one has been amputated or stoned. The complexity of punishing some with Shariah Law is not simple, so Civil Law is still very much impossed.
