KYOTO – 10 things to know for your trip to Kyoto, Japan in 2024 πŸ‘˜πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅πŸ―

1. New hotels:
Due to the pandemic hotel projects were delayed, but are now starting to open their doors, including Dusit Thani Kyoto, Mimaru Suites Kyoto and Six Senses Kyoto scheduled to open in March.

2. Tourism is back:
Travellers are back and Kyoto is busier than ever this year. Kyoto is especially beautiful during spring and autumn, however this means more crowds.

3. Festivals are back:
After a few years of hiatus, Kyoto’s many matsuris, parades and illuminations are back, including the most famous Gion Matsuri held every July and Gozan Okuribi in August.

4. Over-tourism:
You don’t always have to follow the crowds when in Kyoto. Seek out smaller temples, quiet streets and hidden cafes to have a richer experience.

5. Spend time doing nothing:
Visit a day spa, traditional ryokan or hot spring in a nearby onsen town or walk down Gion in traditional clothes.

6. Experience the culture:
Many temples like Kenninji and offer private meditations and tea ceremonies, but book in advance.

7. Get crafty:
Kyoto is home to many artisanal workshops including Nishijin Textile Museum, kimono dyeing and ceramic artists.

8. Think modern:
Many don’t realise how contemporary Kyoto is, with many innovative design spaces across the city.

9. Respect the etiquette:
Remember that Kyoto is a place where locals live their daily lives, not a theme park. Kyoto is also home to 17 UNESCO
World Heritage Sites.

10. Rent bikes:
Kyoto is often best seen on two wheels and it allows you to see the city at your own pace. πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅πŸ±πŸœ
