Greetings, fellow wanderers of the virtual world! I recently embarked on an enchanting journey through the bustling streets of Sannomiya to Motomachi, Kobe, and I couldn’t resist sharing this unique experience with you through a live stream.

As the year drew to a close, I wanted to give you a glimpse of what the Japanese do during this special season. So, lace up your virtual walking shoes, and let’s stroll through the heart of Japan during the year-end festivities.

The year-end and New Year’s season, known as “Oshogatsu,” is a time of profound significance in Japanese culture. It’s a time when traditions are upheld with great enthusiasm, and the streets come alive with a palpable sense of anticipation. Here are some of the highlights of what you’ll find during this enchanting time:

1. **Hatsumode (初詣):** This is the first shrine or temple visit of the year, a practice deeply ingrained in Japanese tradition. Shrines like Ikuta Shrine in Kobe are bustling with people offering their prayers and seeking blessings for the upcoming year.

2. **New Year’s Food:** Osechi Ryori, a special assortment of dishes, is prepared to celebrate the New Year. Each dish carries symbolic meanings, and it’s a true feast for the senses.

3. **Countdown Celebrations:** While Japan doesn’t traditionally celebrate New Year’s with fireworks, you’ll find countdown events in major cities like Tokyo. Kobe’s Harborland area often hosts a spectacular countdown party.

4. **Shopping Extravaganza:** The year-end is the perfect time for some retail therapy. Department stores and shops offer “Fukubukuro” (lucky bags) filled with surprise items at discounted prices.

5. **Nengajo (New Year’s Cards):** Sending and receiving New Year’s cards is a cherished tradition in Japan. These beautifully designed cards are exchanged among friends and family.

In must be at night here is 1:45 p.m. that is aost have you tried have you bought uh the drinks from the vending machines only for the morning or the you know depending on the scenes they have so many different type of the um CES six different type of the uh no

Seven different uh no six different type of the uh coffees uh and hot and cold as well this is my favorite one is sweet be drink I see a lot of it’s a cold it’s a frozen food you can buy the frozen food from here and then you can warm up heat

It up by uh microwave me in Japanese means microwaves so L Okay t uh so different types hi Natalia you love vending Machin in Japan of course so many different kinds every day no not almost every day see the different new items of the vending machines so it’s kind of vending machine Advance the country in Japan I

Guess yeah so dirty here because of the night yeah usually the Japanese Cen Japanese uh Street are clean but it’s kind of temporary things because of the year end it’s a special the reason why I’m working here is to um I’m holding the uh Jimbo Jim a bit

Weak I want to switch to the front C I went to the at night uh but uh I forgot to bring the award I didn’t bring money so but um you know nowadays uh we can cash on by the uh like um QR code you know uh this uh

Phone iPhone have the um QR code something pay like a pay pay or uh Apple pay uh whatever uh I usually use the luten pay so and usually we can pay that kind of you know a mobile phone those kind of franchise the shops like 71 or uh

Starbucks coffee or whatever is family M convenience store donkey hot or usually the major restaurant we can we don’t need to bring the wet just a cashless payment so yesterday I forgot to bring the war but uh I I even forgot that I didn’t bring the w i noticed when I left

Home but I just um walk in to the uh ja bar because I just saw it I remember ah this is the place I want wanted to go then I just enter Then I ordered a tea and then realized that ah I forgot to bring the wallet and don’t have a cash

Then I asked the owner this he said yeah they accept only cash it happens so I need to return the money so that’s why I’m walking to over there hi so so so oh we call it the I do s s s is kind of Japanese old anime we still can see that

Anime it’s kind of family um comedy animation in Japan for a long time uh that’s the main character she she her name is s and she always forget she even forget to bring in your War uh to the supermarket so I do a lot so anyway um you know it happens so

They owna know it so H that’s okay maybe we bring tomorrow so that is fine so Hony I really appreciate the safeness uh safety um in Japan you know they trust each other so uh really appreciate it so I need to go and return the money I spent yesterday for the tea at

The tomorrow New Year day I think they open for the new year they we visit to their families or relative so then we need to bring something like we don’t say this but so so that’s just a present yeah do you use the QR code a lot for the

Payment and how about others uh in your country if you’re watching please let me know um do you use the QR code for the payment or credit card what is your major payment method in your country in Japan you must have cash I mean of course uh nowadays many shops restaurant

Accept the accredit cards or the QR code but some still don’t and especially in the countryside also Temple shines never accept the QR ah yeah I think I saw on the news that one a few um shine accept the QR code for the oen just to kind

Kind of donation when you visit thean that is very unique very there so they accept only cash so sometimes we forget I wondered when I was in the US uh we used the checks check um you you need to sign on it right and then write down the uh amount uh by

Handwriting like a $50 is not 5 $50 you have to write down right so that checks I think it’s a very B Su do you still use it I mean it’s a kind of major uh method for the payment I wonder ah yes T Yeah Christmas um how was your

Christmas was good in Japan how’s the a weather like weather like you see is um not cold it’s only 12 uh 12° C uh which is about 56 around 56 uh Fahrenheit hi oh my God Hi H we load curs to our war in iPhone ah yeah yeah yeah so a

It is becoming very frequent now so app is popular in Australia is it checks are used only for the larger pches I see like a l payment here now and the younger people don’t even know people don’t even don’t know how to use checks nor do they have them he Even I thought this kind of we had a Travelers checks the checks for The Travelers I think it’s going to it died that system I’m walking towards The it’s a very fancy area in between the Sonia and M so this area more like boutiques or nice cafes um you’ll enjoy especially in the evening I think they have the CL used cloes it’s open now but they said king that’s a happy New

Year hi so thank you we had a great and what say uh affectionate from you last year and uh this year also please be nice to me so this is a date uh the closed tomorrow and the 1 of the January and they open from the second so then a special time we

Call means first of January it’s a New Year’s usually refer to the first to around 10 around 7 or 10 yeah of the January so we call I got the notification from my bank last week that soon checks will be oh sorry so I don’t no wonder no wonder I don’t

Surprise I think it’s it’s very obsolete method they open from afternoon and evening I think they open until quite late at night this the five p.m. 5:30 p.m. to the 10 p.m. they open at night it’s nice I can smell nice they coffee and wines shampoo perms

This looks like American um Team um Barber or hair salon I think they photo shooting for the hair model I guess a new year ornament so you see me I I my they also have the vending machine for the Frozen it’s a QR payment so it’s a quick pay

Yeah so many different P you know what they say is I see this one is for the um um the TR train train systems so like so that is I is a train then nanako is a 71 uh uh related um q and Ed is a l

Uh then won is Eon pay the ID and uh quick pay so these are the the system for the um payment uh connected to the um uh credit card then AI pay aay aay is a kind of mobile company one of three major mobile company and the med medar pay

Mear and paye and this is a Chinese one these two are the Chinese on so there’s so many and sometimes we cannot find what I have I usually use the um uh L 10 pay a lot and also the um quick pay but yesterday uh the restaurant I went they didn’t accept

That um Len pay and uh quick pay usually those that these two are are quite major but they don’t have so I have to um charge onto my uh Transportation uh Su uh mobile sua anyway we can do on the mobile phone so then quickly I uh put in the money

Transfer the money then I Paid I wonder where you stay thank you for watching the m is something close to the New Year already is everything closed for New Year h no no no they still open summer of course is closed I think the usually yesterday and uh most of not all

But most of the uh you know company employees um holiday today usually 30 31st one to three are the holidays in Japan so usually from the four of January of course it depends so I already walk uh one train stations it’s very close by and just chatting and

Finish Lon loon is a conven right so it’s a conven but they have the only 100 yen loon but there some products these are the different prices but the mainly most of them 100 y so they take care of me 100 anyway so few people out now lunch it’s 2 p.m.

So more people out um in the evening so mama mama compar less people and few people Street here session it’s a it’s a new year session means a drinking session so they welome the customer so and December January is uh um quite busy for the uh those isaka restaurant and theica shops because

People tend to drink more T is Coffee so what the Japanese do at the year end up there is a train station so it’s under the train station uh train uh layers so we this kind of um uh apartment agency this Agency for the lenal houses apartment then this is as I say a

New so this year also please be nice to me so Sor but uh this December 27 uh to January 3rd will be closed because no bus during the end of the year and the new year so they just decided to close it’s almost a shter street uh

Maybe because this time you know it’s at 2:00 p.m. too early to open that this area also maybe because uh end of the year so now I remember you know um I wear the um pajama they say pajama uh the gloves and the mahura we call it mahura it’s you say scarf

Right it’s a Japanese Katakana word we call the mahura it’s a mahura probably you imagine the you know car uh the you know a m the gas say not the gas I say it’s a mahura right but uh yeah usually for and different shops it was the

Umoya the gon the beef bow beef rice bow now it’s change to the takoyaki and high B is um um whiskey soda the whiskey soda andak it matches very nicely so wow it’s a huge which is very popular uh in Taiwan yeah we love the Taiwanese food o the dreams so it’s under

Numbers it’s a beef bone Um it’s closed now it’s Clos now you know the pingbo games hi thank you for tuning in I’m just walking towards the otoi area right now so let me share the um what we do this New Year ornament we call kadu uh usually decorate in front of the shops or apartment into our Home they they start to show show you not show off but they just um decorate at the end of the year just to prepare but that is for the new year hi I thought they close uh today but they open the ah CL already only the ATM machines for the

You I W Wrong Way New Year we eat oi so this is a oi it’s a o a boxed food uh usually we prepare at the end of the year so that we can have a list in the New Year’s uh first three almost 3 days we just keep

Eating this in the box if you have a family okay CFE I’m not sure but uh it’s is is possible that they accept only cash so kind of old style coffee shop so it’s not the doto it’s not the um starx so so it’s kind of it’s a later

On and coffee shop they us you can smoke inside so yeah CHR I think you a to Japanese right so probably you know how to cook and you bought uh I bought a pre pre-made s set from the local Japanese grocery store for the new year oh that’s nice that’s

Good when I was in Singapore they have there many Japanese restaurant and they provided a Japanese o so it was very nice I remember that oh by the way I reached finally that the Jaz Kissa uh that I came yesterday and I didn’t pay so I now I’m going to pay the yesterday’s

Tea but I forgot to bring the wallet yesterday so now I have a wallet cash now so I going to pay today okay now do you have any questions tomorrow is 31st of December is I do the live again so I see you tomorrow I wonder the how do you
