Dear viewer, this is part 11 of the fabs goes asia series.
We are in Hiroshima and after the Whisky Destillery Tour in Kyoto, we are ready to face the historically most tragic stop on our journey. A short history lesson, before we start with the travel diary: // On August 6, 1945, during World War II (1939-45), an American B-29 bomber dropped the world’s first deployed atomic bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The explosion wiped out 90 percent of the city and immediately killed 80,000 people; tens of thousands more would later die of radiation exposure. Three days later, a second B-29 dropped another A-bomb on Nagasaki, killing an estimated 40,000 people. //
We started the day with a visit of the beautiful Shukkeien garden and came across a photograph that showed the impact that the bomb had on the garden that was in full bloom and in a perfect state of peace and calm, when we got there – only some gardeners took care of the lake. We then lunched in one of the many Okonomiyaki restaurants. Very delicious and – of course – very popular. After that we walked down the Peace Boulevard towards the Peace Memorial Museum and visited the exhibition, too. The sun was shining the whole day, it was simply hard to imagine, how the lives of so many uninformed and unprepared and – most of all – innocent civilians like us had been wiped out 73 years ago. One exhibition peace especially caught my eye: a wrist watch that stopped instantly, when the bomb exploded only 600 meters above the owner. We spent some time around the ground zero of the boming, which is around the Atomic Bomb Dome and let the atmosphere and weird energy of trauma and rebuilding of a city sink in on us. To finally cheer us up, we decided to grant us an awesome evening at the movies.

Enjoy,
F.
