Good morning we are going to visit Yanaka Ginza today Yanaka is the historical neighborhood of Tokyo a so called “Shitamachi”, or an area with an old Japan feeling there are many shops selling antiques on the way to Yanaka The main street of Yanaka is called Yanaka Ginza
Yanaka Ginza is famous for its antique shops and street food in particular fried food and croquettes My goal today is to explore the area on foot and try the famous street food 😀 you can easily get to Yanaka Ginza by walking from JR Nippori station or Sendagi underground station
Coming from Nippori station, you will find a staircase leading you to Yanaka Ginza let’s walk there you can watch the sunset from the staircase if you come at the right time 🙂 you can also spot many cats around this area if you come when it is not busy
This is the shotengai famous entrance it’s Sunday today, so it is a bit busy vintage shops are everywhere I like the nostalgic feeling 🙂 you can feel the old Tokyo here time to eat 🙂 first shop: we will try the famous Yanaka fried croquettes here This is a fried eggplant croquette
Very tasty and juicy and this is the famous Yanaka menchi-katsu (minced meat croquette) yummy I like how the houses here have sculpture and paintings to decorate the balconies very peculiar This shop has a cat sculpture on the roof 😉 it’s a Japanese sake brewery. You can drink fresh sake here
Time for more croquettes, let’s try another shop there are many croquettes: fish, egg, meat, vegetable based croquettes.. I got these This is an egg croquette (tamago-yaki fry) it’s awesome!! another menchi-katsu (minced meat) with black pepper homemade noodles shop! looks so good! too bad I can’t eat them right away homemade tempura
I want to try them all but I need to try so many other shops…. I decided to try potato tempura.. it’s amazing! Koro-koro-yaki.. a bowl of mixed grilled meat! had so much food.. I only have space left in my stomach for dessert this is a Japanese sweets store
So many sweets.. difficult to choose I got these 2… package is so cute! they are called “karinto manju” anko manju (japanese red beans) potato manju and now a good coffee to close the lunch 🙂 after lunch, lets go shopping for antiques! they have all kind of things here statues, bowls, paintings, masks
Even katana! I like the pagoda replica wow this shop has an entire samurai armor! they mainly sell original katana here they can also ship internationally Yanaka area has a lot of cool back alleys let’s explore a bit many japanese temples here you can see one every few meters
This one still has a tree with red leaves I like the peaceful atmosphere here but that’s it for today! I had a great day exploring Yanaka Ginza and tried lots of street food 🙂 I will take the stairs from here and go back to the station . Thank you for watching 🙂
