This is episode 5 of our Japan bike tour on October 2023.

We left our hotel in Hiyoshi to visit a small town called Narai.
We had breakfast at 711 where we tasted Umaibo, a Japanese corn snack. We we’re reaching high elevations and the red leaves of the fall season have become more obvious. We passed through a long tunnel again before reaching Narai. We also had coffee in Matsuya Sabo, a small coffee shop where they serve siphon coffee and cakes.

Narai is a post town that is part of the Nakasendo trail. An old mountain trail was used by people during the old times. The buildings have been kept much like they originally were in the Edo period.
