We are Owen and ashing and today we are in Kyoto once the capital city of Japan Kyoto today is still meant to represent and betray a more traditional Japan so we’re going to be making our way around the street the market and the mean must visit locations here to find out if that
Really is still the case and of course we’re going to be getting tucked into some of the tasty local drinks and dishes we are starting off at one of the most iconic images here which is the fuchi imari shrine so we have literally just arrived in Kyoto this morning around 5:30 a.m.
Last night we left Tokyo on a night bus to get here and the journey wasn’t too bad at all to be honest with you but we are we bit slightly tired we did sleep on a bus after all and it wasn’t even like a sleeper bus it was just your
Standard normal type of bus but we’re out bright and early at the minute it’s around 7:00 a.m. and we are hoping to beat the crowds Today a lot of tourists visit this location however it’s not because of the shrine instead it’s because of the thing you can see right behind me which is the entrance to the 1,000 Gates it’s one of the most iconic images here in Kyoto and it’s the one thing that I was dying to
See for myself so as we’re walking up and looking back we’re noticing that there’s actually writing on the back side of the pillars which I’m a little bit confused by cuz unless you turn around and look back you’re not going to see it it probably has some sort of man in I’m not
Sure if you know what it is let us know down in the comments below but you can see no writing at all when you’re walking forward but it’s very beautiful when you do love back so Owen’s having a little bit of a debate with me he believes that the
Gates are actually red and they’re just faded to Orange however I believe they’re orange so which side of the debate are you on are you on red or are you on orange I couldn’t think of a nicer way to spend her first morning here in Kyoto even though we’re tired
This is just such a lovely morning and as you said it’s so peaceful walking through the forest the sound of the water running all the birds in the trees as well exactly we definitely did not beat the crowds however there is a lot of people here I feel like we have beat
The crowds in comparison to probably what it’s like in the middle of the day but it’s always be busy I think yeah there was a lot of people thinking the same as us come early in the morning beat the crowds not happening no the debate is s they are currently painting
Two of the pillars and that’s orange paint going on yeah it’s stanely orange 100% orange I love the smell of pant though so it turns out the area is actually a lot bigger than we expected it to be lot of steps too but it’s all going through the forest I suppose
That’s not a bad thing uphill uphill Forest so we have some high managed to talk ourselves into an even bigger hike up to the top of the mountain here and we didn’t even know there was a mountain we didn’t know there was a mountain at
All but there is a mountain and we have stopped off at a little Viewpoint that I think is halfway I’m not exactly sh there’s quite a few different routes and I feel like the maps are lying to us the route that we followed said it was 25
Minutes to the top but ow found another one saying that it was another 40 minutes to walk and I don’t know if I’m I’ve signed up to that one today but this is lovely we’re just taking a seat people watching taking in the view of the city as well it’s our first like
Peek at the city as well and we’re bra he we are check this out and we started way down there somewhere somewhere in this area Up at the top of the mountain here there’s a lovely way Shrine that is just covered with thousands and thousands of the gates loads of red color everywhere or orange color whatever but it is really really nice however there’s no few the reason we hacked the hallway up
Here is cuz on the map it said you were going to the summit which I assumed meant there was going to be a few completely wrong no Fe at all we’re still in the forest covered by trees just at the top part but it was still well worth the walk it’s really really
Nice it’s quite peaceful peaceful but we have a mega track to get back down to the bottom now I reckon it could take us like an hour who knows and just like that we are back down on ground level and we have come to the Nish ke Market
Which is meant to be one of the most popular places for Japanese food and straight food so I think it’s Lunchtime just like the gats this Market just keeps on going and going and going I literally cannot see the end but there’s so much choice so surely we’ll find something to eat here the first dish we have went for here is a taco Yaki which is a big dish
In this part of Japan I believe it originated in Osaka and what it actually is is octopus bread and this has got loads of cheese on it as well which we opted for a week extra and it’s covered in soy sauce they look really really tasty however octopus isn’t something
That we would normally go for we’re not big Seafood lovers but we had to try it since we were here and look at that so yeah it’s like and they put octopus into the flour into the dough and then fry it off in the Way Grill thing W it’s just
Falling apart look at that oh wow it good oh my days that’s really good really cheesy really soft not seafoody at all don’t even taste Al sace in the slightest more in that bite bit octopus there oh my God overall that’s really good I like that a
Lot little bit octopus but overall that doesn’t even taste like a bread consistency it more so tastes like a potato brette consistency the cheese on top I must say is a lovely addition and I think it is soy sauce really really good look at that I am surprisingly full after the TA
Yaki Taki Yaki I can’t remember exactly how to pronounce it but it was really good I’m very surprised that we enjoyed it as much as we did but I believe we are still on the hunt for some more tasty Goods look what I got this one has been taking on us for a wee while and it’s called a tacky if I’m correct it’s a fish shaped dessert first of all it looks really really cute but second it has custard inside so let’s see it looks hot it’s actually not even
That hot even though the steam is horison that’s really good maybe we need to get another one oh my goodness that’s so hot I hadn’t got to the C oh wow it just burst out the middle oh it’s like it’s like a sponge cake it’s like a Victoria sponge
Cake with Custard in the middle it’s like a Christmas dinner dessert a Christmas dinner dessert a Christmas dessert after your Christmas dinner look at that w m that’s fantastic kind attempted I’ve never had it before a shot for 100 I get two yeah go for
Okay can I get two okay dry or extra dry uh oh what I want one on one yeah we’re on the booze now Lads so what we’ve got here is two shots of sik sik is a very popular and common rice wine here in Japan that we haven’t tried yet
So I’m excited for this we have got one that is dry and one that is extra dry so I don’t really know what the difference that’s going to be to be honest with you I’m not even a wine lover but here that’s not bad but it’s it’s got a
Kick I’m not going to lie to you that’s got to kick okay so that’s definitely the extra dry and that’s actually much nicer it has got a kick it’s kind of like a I don’t even know how to describe it it is like whiny it’s a bit like oh my God
You know it’s like it’s like poching for anybody doesn’t know what poing is it’s like moonshine in Ireland kind of thing um it’s like a a homemade Brew we’ll call it like a Spur that people would have made years ago in Ireland and it’s quite like
Poching you know what I’m on for that that’s not too bad at all it smells like a white wine this is the the normal one the dry one not the actra dry the dry okay I like it that’s a woman that does not look convinced I’m figuring I to Flavors
We’ll put hairs not chest oh I do like them both though I think I like this one better there’s more of a fruity tear so you like the extra dry and I like the normal one there you go cheers it’s 5 o’ somewhere what’s next look L guys I love it that’s
Brilliant it’s a studious crab look at all that Wago stick conveniently are next destination is only a 20 minute walk back this way through the market so we’re just going to have to walk through the market again what a Pity what a petty more food at the top of the market we find
This lovely Shrine just tucked away and it is so so peaceful in here so much Greenery plants everywhere and such such a Zen place to just come away from the busyness that’s on the streets just outside some good luck always could do with some good luck you can never get too much good
Luck a lot of people Dro that head and back to the people and the normality of the streets of Kyoto Madness Kyoto is known around the world for many different things from its numerous Buddhist temples tranquil Gardens Imperial palaces and shrines to traditional wooden houses Kyo does have a modern mean area and urban Cityside but it is also filled with intriguing and quirky narrow streets our last stop of the day was the
Hokan temple which is another major location to visit here and yes it was beautiful however the crowds of people were really starting to get the better of us Kyo is a beautiful place but if you’re planning to visit here for yourself just be prepared for the waves of people absolutely everywhere you go
Sadly it does make visiting kyodo not the traditional peaceful place we thought it was originally going to be but rather a busy crowded tourist destination that we find slightly underwhelming the next day we hopped on a train and made our way to the final place we wanted to see in the area
Before we moved on and that was the bamboo forest in the cute little town of arashiyama which is exactly what you’d imagine a beautiful Forest made up of thousands of bamboo trees and again the crowds here were a lot but the area s was gorgeous and once we made our way
Away from the main location that everybody was taking their photographs at we headed off on a lovely peaceful walk through the forest and around the town which was the perfect way to end out a trip here to what was once the capital city of Japan Kyoto oh

Wow kyoto overlooking city of japan and food is delicious . Yummy. New friend frim philippines.
❤❤❤❤🇵🇭
the writing on the pillars is just the companies that sponsored them
It rained so bad out first day in Kyoto but our tour guide (not the most budget friendly) showed us some hidden gems I hadn’t heard of before
Also in regards to writing all the gates were donated by different people the writing states the dates and names for each one some of them are pretty new so they’re orange 🍊
