Ohayo. We are going to see the Himeji castle today. Milking our JR pass 🙂 The castle is a straight shot from the station. It’s the largest castle in Japan. It’s a long winding way to the main keep. It has kept its current structure since 1618,
But has a history dating back to 1333. The loopholes in the walls were adapted for various weapons. There is also an elaborate maze around the main keep. It survived through WWII and the Great Hanshin earthquake. Incredible. We finally reached the main keep of the castle. No shoes allowed to protect the flooring.
There are six floors that we can freely explore. Very steep stairs. Great cardio. Finally the top floor. Sweeping views of Himeji city. Different views on each side of the floor. Patiently waiting since 2015. The racks used to hold weapons for easy access. Model of the castle in the Edo period.
We are getting hungry. So we said bye to the castle and Himeji city. Lunch will be street food in Kobe chinatown. First stop. Still soup-y inside like regular xiao long bao. Bathroom break What else to have… hmm. Peking duck! Fourth croquette of the trip coming up.
Not the best we’ve ever had but pretty good! All things sweet potato! I really wanted the Mont Blanc but we were too full by now. So we only got a donut that we enjoyed the next day. We finished with some almond milk ice cream. Getting #5! Tasty! 🙂 Heading back to Kyoto.
Getting excited for our Spanish-Japanese dinner. Looking back on our whole trip, this is in my top 3 favourite meals. Beautiful marbling with fats filled with oleic acid. I learnt so much about “Bellota Gyukuro” iberian ham. The Japanese really know how to do tripe. A meal to remember <3

Thanks for the insight of the castle, it was very helpful
Excellent. I'm using this as a guide for my next trip to Japan
I am going in Sept. From osaka to himeji to kobe, then back to osaka. May I ask what time you departed to himeji, and did you feel rushed with your itinerary? Sorry, I'm asking a lot lol but I'm hoping to leave 5-6 am each morning to beat the rush hour 😅😅
Hi can i use this video? it is under creative commons attributions. I will some part of the video is it okay?
Hi, great vid.. may I ask if I plan to walk from Himeji station to Himeji castle, exploring the castle, then walk back to the train station.. how much time is sufficient? is 2 hours enough to explore the castle and coco garden including the walk from and to the station?
Was it in Spring? I was there in April and the weather was so cold in the morning.
