April 2023: I continued my adventure in Kagoshima where I explored Sakurajima, Japan’s most active volcano and then stayed and worked at a farm in Izumi with my lovely host family.

All right good morning uh I got a little late start today last night I went to two of these noi h d which is all you can drink places um but today I think I’m going to go to sakima a barrier across and then there’s a bus that goes

Around the The Volcano excited check it Out Of course Breakfast of Champions onigiri and hangover drink I think there’s a Dance Festival for people from all over Japan this weekend in kakoshima remember some guy in the city government was email me about it so wow look at the volcano it’s a beautiful day Not too Late all right we’re good you buy a ticket I guess at the Volcano wow it’s a full on the ramen shop and ice cream machine here that’s amazing every day there a news article About I got a Hop On Hop off day pass so there’s around 12 or 11 I don’t remember sites that you can go to explore it’s only like 500 y for all day access so not bad all right the first stop I stopped at is the visitor center it’s really

Empty so I don’t know if I made a mistake or not let’s check out the visitor center see if there’s a map and a diarama and the history of the [Applause] Volcano one big thing I learned is that modern are the volcano a lot and then every year on January 12th which is the same anniversary as the the biggest eruption which was in 1912 or 14 they do an evacuation drill the practice like leaving the island and kids go to school

In a helmet which I don’t really get what that’s supposed to Do Yeah all right I’m back at the ferry port he seems to run pretty often I might go if I can get see somewhere to eat around here ah I love these off of beaten path Japanese Adventure Vibes hope to take the fairy back Soon so that Shrine over there was actually rebuilt it used to be way further up on the volcano but after 1914 it got buried and destroyed and is rebuilt over here there’s also a gate a Tory gate uh from a shrine on the other side of the

Volcano buried in 9 ft of Ash and they leave it there as like a symbol of that eruption so the way it works you put 100 yen coin and you buy bu one of those little fortunes paying your fortune keep it or you can hang it up on the trees um

Which is why you see them all the paper tied up to a lot of trees around shrines rule of the shrine that I’ve learned is that you don’t walk through the center because that’s the passageway that the gods are supposed to go Through All right I’m on the fair back right now I’m craving that chicken so badly it’s so good look at that oh so good really can’t be it so good they all have like this tear here hold it up ketchup of mustard this is it on break it cheers not Bad all right I’m back in kagoshima I see the tents for that Festival from earlier so I’m going to walk towards there and see what’s up look at this an H2 this is like so cool people selling your stuff like Thrift style and there’s food but looks like they’re closing down which is a shame Fore fore he hi you all my [Applause] S [Applause] all right that was sick that was probably some of the coolest and most energetic dancing I’ve ever seen students from all over and um at the end they had the jrq shoe which is the trade company um that was Awesome fuing lit Harded so in Japan it’s considered rude if you leave food on your plate there been a few times on this trip where I’ve had to just scarf down food and push Myself All right good morning uh it’s a little early woke up a little early today I’m leaving kagoshima right now I’m going to a farm in isumi which is about like an hour north of here by train doing a farm stay experience I’m going early because there’s some School ceremony I don’t

Know what that really means uh let’s take the train right now and then we’ll see what it’s like all right I made do iumi but it smells like Farm no I’m kidding it’s actually Big this lady’s crazy she’s like running around and just asking for like what should we do what should we do with this guy I don’t know what to do she just takes Off she say M you explain to me people bought a new car and they’re getting it blessed to make it like safe and to avoid accidents and Stuff also I found the most unhinged lady in all of Japan okay this lady is SE in him she just dropped me off and left me I don’t understand half thing she’s saying she’s speaking super fast I think she’s hard of hearing she’s like dumped me on this

Tour guy who like wasn’t expecting me at all and this old traditional Japanese home and he’s like she’s like yeah he came too early so like I don’t know what to do so let him just figure it out I guess we’ll just bounce around and figure this out it’s it’s 10:15 in the

Morning I have like all day to kill also a further context like no one speaks English here this is like all in Japanese this is not only have they speaking so fast they also have like this cuu Dialect okay update original guy got dumped off on he left so I’m here by myself there’s the other dude over there who I think works Here you guys Okay so I just went information section and they gave me a lot of different pamplets I’m currently in the samurai District uh those are the houses I just saw that the lady just dropped me off at and said see you cranes which are a big

Deal here I think she was telling me it was in March so I think a little bit passed wintering period between middle of October to end of March so it’s already passed so I got I don’t know a couple hours to kill I I don’t know when she’s going to

Pick me up let’s go let’s head out so this is actually the historical like Samurai District like all these historical homes mix in with some like old Museum SL preserved Samurai homes that the guy I met earlier is taken care of where you can like even see like the

Old walls of the homes really Cool I do those wow that was so nice I stopped by cuz I didn’t know what it was and it smelled really good and she gave me a a little sample fish tofu cake kind of thing H wow that was amazing all right yeah you can really

Tell like the effect of Japan’s aging population and it’s got that run down field honestly it doesn’t feel too off too far off from a lot of things you see in oh look at the bll train in America hold on look at the bll Train [Applause] To all right that’s actually surprisingly not as bad meal as I thought uh that soy marinade fish was delicious he was very surprised I could speak Japanese I’m going to head towards the station area probably won’t be too much excitement so that is the Kumamoto mascot uh which is the biggest town

Between kakima where I was before andoko where I’m ending up look at this guy look at him this adorable come On it’s starting to rain and the lady has all my stuff and took my coat I might text her soon to ask her pick me up it’s a book off close by so I’m probably going to go that see look at some old video games all right I just

Got into their guest house in the farm stay it’s really cool I really like the vibe bumed my head a few times ESP on these doorways I’ll give you the full tour for the place after I talk to the guy and check in so g con place to take your shoes off

This is the main bedroom space this is my bed traditional Japanese futon bed they have like this heating thing which I’ve never seen before but it heats the bed and keeps it nice and warm already pretty warm but I mean it can go it’s

Say 90 more minutes 1 2 3 4 5 six Tani mats and then here is the living room and then back here the bathroom here’s the kitchen space and then here is the bath in shower space and then outside that’s that’s their home they have a garden and their Farm all around There Hold you All right good morning I just slept great I’m going to be here for a little bit and then I going get the train to fukoka so we’ll head up to the top of hu we a little tour here of the Farm go To Sureeee N
