Transcript: “Heading to Okinawa? These are my Top 5 picks for what to do while you are there.

First, head to Shuri Castle. This ancient fortress is fully restored. and – Shuri is located on top of hill, so you get one of the best views in Naha.

Second on the list, shop and eat on Kokusai Dori. This is Okinawas most famous street. It is busy, busy, busy and it has tons of restaurants and shops with colorful souveniors and authentic Okinawa crafts as well.

Your third stop should be the WW2 Peace Memorial. This is located at the southern end of the island. The memorial has the names of everyone who died in the battle of Okinawa. it is a moving monument that is surrounded by stunning views.

I also recommend that you visit Ocean Expo Park and Churaumi Aquarium. There is a village with authentic Okinawan architecture. and – the aquariums largest tank has a whale shark that dwarfs the audience beneath it.

Finally, after you taste the food – enjoy the music – and see the sites – head to the beach.

Okinawa is a warm, sunny paradise with tons of great Sand, so take some time to soak up the rays and relax.”

  1. @DTanimaga I never experienced any of that. Little kids always liked to wave at me and say "Hello" in English. I thought it was cute.

  2. @Zangdoodle You will enjoy every second if you are adventurous, have an open mind, and immerse yourself in their culture. One of this planets true jewls and a place of Magic! I grew up there and would give anything to revisit it for a while. Good luck and tell the cab driver he is a "bakatadi". It's a term of endearment! Make sure you put on your safety belt as there is nowhere else with cab drivers like Okinawa…especially if you are a round-eye.

  3. @1009stumpy My experience was that their were tons of people who were very nice to me and none that weren't. I had many people offer to help me out when I wasn't even looking for help. It is the safest country on earth. You should go their if you want to. You won't regret it.

  4. @Rao665 haha >.> I was pretty bummed when I realized they card in the states, I've been drinking since I was like 13 and bar hopping since 16.

  5. @1009stumpy Maillanders don't really like foreigners but Okinawans are so incredibly nice. I lived in Okinawa for 14 years and most love americans.

  6. white people need to chill. yes there are japenese there but there are also alot of americans and their children hafus who basically are white anyway so white people or caucasians whatever dont worry youll fit in..

  7. @AgileHProductions well you would blend with in with the half japenese people pretty well because they thend to look pretty white. but you wouldnt blend in with the japenese

  8. Hi, have you tried "Reveal Travel Deal" (just google it)? I have discovered various incredibly affordable resorts and flight tickets. This can allow you to spend less on your upcoming getaway too.

  9. Okinawa is the best place to move to, especially if you feel like trying something new and the experiences you will gain will truly be life changing. Or at least that's what it did for me. I consider it my other home and I will go back one day! 🙂

  10. im half japanese specifically from okinawa. i think okinawa is a good place to visit but not to live a long time. its freaken hot in summer and its hard to get a permanent job. But if you want to visit, the beaches are great!!! hope i helped

  11. With all the huge military bases I was surprised that it wasn't more American than it is. Hopefully, they can stay uniquely Okinawan.

  12. Well viewer,

I think it is a pretty good idea. Do you know Japanese? If you like hot weather and beaches then Okinawa is a good destination. The northern half of the island is less populated and very laid back. Tokyo is big and expensive, but has tons of things to experience. Kyoto is traditional Japan. Let me know where you end up going.

  13. It's always nice to hear that people had a good time on the island. I found everyone there very friendly.

  14. I don't really know much about that. I think getting work visas is tricky. I don't know what the negatives would be. If you like a tropical, humid climate and lots of beaches, then this is a great place to live.

  15. You will learn more Japanese in a week in Okinawa than you will in 5 weeks in the classroom – at least that was my experience.

  16. There are several places where you can see the aftermath of the battle. I was at a loss of words when I saw the peace memorial. It was one of the few times that I took pride in being a marine

  17. Are you not usually proud to be a marine? I've never been in the military, so I don't know anything about it. I'm just curious.

  18. any tips or thoughts on visiting during the rainy season?? is it worth it for those wanting some beach days?? Thanks in advance!
