I’m taking a Japanese ferry from Niigata to Sado Island for lunch this time and trying Suite. The cabin is huge. The ship is operated by Sado Kisen.

  1. All I could think of was that that must be meant for, like, small school trips, or a family reunion, or an office outing–something big you can crowd everybody into and maybe tuck kids in the beds for naps. That was gloriously ridiculous. At least you got good curry!

  2. great video, and amazing, you got free cookies, tea, free air, and your own private ghost to turn your tvs on!

  3. i know it's a 30y old ship, but boy does that room look dated. i get that redoing a large ship is expensive, but a set of New furniture or a bit of paint couldn't hurt.

  4. So strange that such a big room exists for such a short journey. I wonder if it's like something a famous person would use, having the whole top floor and such, while they could sleep and relax in that bedroom while their team of producers and such, sit in the big meeting-like room where they have a bunch of drinks for everyone while they discuss things and use all of the extra space for equipment.

  5. People ask why this room exists. Probably the same reason why the Holiday inn express have suits. Eventually a traveler mmmight need or want to use it

  6. This is another one of those suites that make you wonder why the ship even has one like it if that's the longest voyage it ever makes. Must be there in case the president of the ferry company ever needs to impress someone. πŸ™‚

  7. There is something spooky about that huge suite, it looks like its stuck in the 1980s even though the ship was built in the 1990s. I guess not alot of people use it so the company does not need to upgrade the decor?

  8. Thanks for the detailed video! Im travelling solo very soon from niigata to sado so I was a bit nervous about the process, but having it laid out to me so clearly is very relieving!

  9. Thank you for always posting. I love your content. I like how you post the time at the beginning and each time you wake if it's an overnight and also at arrivals and departures. Something that I would find helpful/interesting would be if you also posted the day of the week at the same time, for example Monday 11:00 am or Thursday 22:00. Much thanks for all you do.

  10. I regularly take that boat, traveling back and forth between our apartment in Tokyo and our house on Sado, but I never even knew that there's a suite. (I'm a cheapskate, so I only travel second class anyway.) It seems a bit of waste, by the way, to travel to Sado just to have curry and then go back again. It's a beautiful place!

  11. I calculate on a 2.5hour journey you could spend 8 mins 48 seconds in each chair/bed they give you including one toilet.
