The prefecture capital of Fukuoka, Fukuoka, is located on Kyushu Island in northern Japan. It is well-known for its beaches, contemporary shopping centers like Canal City, and historic temples. There are remnants of the 17th-century Fukuoka Castle at Maizuru Park. The Hakata Machiya Folk Museum, with exhibits on daily life in the Meiji and Taishō eras, and Tōchō-ji Temple, which has a 10-meter-tall wooden Buddha, are located in the central Hakata neighborhood.
