Venture into the heart of Central Portugal to discover the captivating Almourol Castle and its deep connection to the Knights Templar. Nestled on a picturesque islet in the Tagus River, this medieval fortress stands as a testament to Portugal’s rich medieval history, and the military prowess of the Knights Templar.

As always, Miguel, wonderful video work, great presentation, fascinating historical site. You know we love you and your POV YouTube adventures! Enjoy your day and have a wonderful week!! ❤️😊 J, L and D in Music City today 🇺🇸
It’s so lovely! 😊
Spectacular! thank you for taking us there.
Aí me perguntei: será que o Miguel colocou as mãos naqueles muros???
Ola MIguel – Almourol! Wow, just so beautiful and even on film, felt the sacredness of this place. Its been on my radar and a place I dearly want to visit one day. Thanks for sharing, and as always with such sensitivity to the people and places of an ancient past 🥝🤗
Thank you for taking us along with you on a tour of the castle. It was awesome.
Your videos are fantastic and I have learned a great deal. I love the mystery of surrounding the Templars and their history in Portugal. However, I recently bought a place in Lisbon and the building I am in has a Hospitaller cross on it. The building is about 100 meters from the Church of Santa Luzia which has the same cross. Could you do a video on the history of this order and their role in Portugal? In the process, can you discover why there are building in the Travessa de Santa Luzia that share the same cross as the church? An additional request is to do a video on the Caminho de Santiago which starts in that area.
Does anyone wonder that after one thousand years , this is still standing? What did they use as a binder for the stones ? Today’s cement last about fifty years and that is with steel reinforcement.
O cao da minha vizinha é chato
@17:29 there is a structure across the river. Any idea what that was? And some other structure/s below the railroad tracks to the right of the first.
The way this is shot, makes me feel like I'm playing MYST back in 1996.❤
9:42 esta sozinho no barco
Love to visit it, one day
Enjoyed seeing this especially about Knights Templar. Remembered my 1st castle seen was Leeds Castle in Leeds, UK (visited 2001). Preserved because an American family lived there last maybe 1930s complete w/ coat of arms, furnishings, personal stuffs. Surrounded by a moat where a permanent walkway is now available where weddings can be held and balloon-riding events. 2nd castle was Carlisle Castle in Cumbria, England (visited 2014) where Mary Queen of Scots was incarcerated. Steps were shiny with patina, no railings and so dark not until we reach the upper parts where there are small windows. One can even see scratchings on stone walls for guards to while away the time. 3rd was Urquhart Castle in Highlands, Scotland in 2014 this is like Almoural castle because mainly walls ruins but can see the tower and other portions below. Surrounded by Loch (lake) and though we reached by tour coaster, we left by ship-like boat to go to Loch Ness. Seeing it from the small ship as we sailed on, with mists made me feel time-warped as to what the castle looked like in its heydays. This used to be owned by a clan in Scottish history. And 4th was Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria, Germany visited in 2015. Finished recently though majority were done in earlier centuries. Said to be where castles in Disneyland got their inspirations. Not all areas were allowed access and entrance was strictly by appointment time. Upon entrance, there's a digital board showing your online serial number paid voucher to go up by batches. This is on a mountain top. The main town has buses but has to walk some more because buses couldn't completely go up due to narrow road with ravine on one side. There are horse-drawn carriages too but not close to castle too, another path because didn't see this at top & still has to walk.
