The Great Eastern Japan Earthquake happened on 11th March 2011. Ishinomaki was one of the stricken areas. There are many other places where the disaster hit and crushed people’s lives, but Ishinomaki is close to my hometown, Sendai. I have been there many times. With this video, I would like to share just some small parts of the last 10 years. I created this video for the special memorial service of the 10th Anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake.

  1. Thank you Meg, I was living in Hokkaido at the time of the earthquake and came to Ishinomaki and Sendai about a month later for two weeks to help with the clean up. The anniversary this year was a time to reflect. This movie gives me some insight into the reconstruction and some hope for its future. I wish to return one day. I am still not sure about the wall though as it seems so harsh but even then maybe not high enough!.

  3. Beautifully put together, and the music pulls at the heart. It's 2am and I've just finished watching the episode on Unsolved Mysteries about the Ishinomaki tsunami, its what brought me here. So much loss and sorrow, but also hope for the future in your video. I pray that the city and community will grow over time and flourish for generations to come. There is always time ans soace for beauty and new growth after devastation 🌸 love from Malaysia

  4. 4:21 – The ruins of the Okawa Elementary School are being preserved as a memorial, since almost all of the students and teachers were killed by the tsunami because they didn't evacuate till it was too late to escape.
