Mount Haku, or Hakusan, extends across four prefectures: Fukui, Gifu, Ishikawa, and Toyama. The mountain has a maximum elevation of 2,702 meters, and in July and August some 300 different types of alpine plants bloom in its upper reaches. These include the black lily (“kuro-yuri”), which is Ishikawa’s prefectural flower, and flowers that include “Hakusan” as part of their name, such as the “Hakusan kozakura.”
