Recorded: May 2019

Oahu Island is home to roughly one million people – about two-thirds of the population of the U.S. state of Hawaii. The city of Honolulu, largest city, state capital, and main deepwater marine port for the State of Hawaiʻi is located here.
Well-known features found on Oʻahu include Waikiki, Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head, Hanauma, Kaneʻohe Bay, Kailua Bay, North Shore.
I spent five days on Oahu Island, drove 340 miles by car and visited, incl. the places described below. My hotel was in Honolulu.
Links to other movies from the island of Oahu I put in the description.

  9. In 1962 and 63 when I was 11 you could go to the reef area and pick up all kinds of sea creatures, they would be in the low tide areas, angel fish, urchins etc. When I went back in 2007 it was not there. There were many wild places, they were gone and the boganvilla as all over and it was gone, that broke my heart. The navy housing by the Pearl Harbor Kai all those myna bird were displaced, I don't know where they went. I was very lucky to have a friend to go with, she had a friend whose husband was a commander, so we got on the P/Harbor base and my very own monkey pod tree and play area was still intact, even some plumeria and hibiscus bushes remained and a very old tree with nuts I used to rake until my hands blistered with the bamboo rake. Those were the days, never forgotten for a girl who went there in 1959 when it became a state and went to 4 years of school. Shopping the new mall, it was huge. Once I ate in the LaRond restaurant that turned a full 360 every hour, that building is there, but not the restaurant. And I sold my ukulele for a low price, never realizing how valuable it was. And you can't get that red dirt out of your play clothes. lol
