Uesugi Shrine was built on the site of Yonezawa Castle Honmaru with Kenshin Uesugi, who has been handed down as the strongest military commander in the Warring States period, as a deity.

It is a power spot that is said to have the benefits of good luck, fulfillment of various wishes, academic achievement, and prosperous business, thanks to Kenshin Uesugi.

On the Maizuru Bridge on the approach road, a military flag with the letters “Bi” and “Dragon” flutters. “Bi” comes from Kenshin Uesugi’s deep belief in Bishamonten. “Dragon” represents Fudo Myo and is said to be the flag raised as a signal for assault when making a total attack on the entire army.

Kenshin Uesugi, who worshiped Buddhism seriously, is said to have fought with the strongest gods Bishamonten and Fudo Myo on his side during the battle.

戦国最強の武将と語り継がれている上杉謙信を祭神として米沢城本丸跡に建立された上杉神社。

上杉謙信にあやかって開運招福や諸願成就、さらには学業成就や商売繁盛のご利益もあるとされるパワースポットです。

参道にある舞鶴橋には「毘」と「龍」という文字が書かれた軍旗が翻ります。「毘」は上杉謙信が毘沙門天を厚く信仰していたことに由来。「龍」は不動明王を表し、全軍総攻撃をする際に突撃の合図として掲げられた旗と言われています。

仏教を篤く信仰した上杉謙信は、合戦に際して毘沙門天と不動明王という最強の両神を味方につけて戦ったとされます。
