    I dropped about 6k in 10 days in Tokyo but really did it up every night, mid lvl hotels and higher end restaurants every second night. I think if you did it really cheap with internet cafe's for sleeping you could do 1k a week

    Great topic! Back in June I had price airfare alerts for Japan and Vietnam, and the cheapest airfare was for Tokyo from Denver, Colorado. With the exchange rate favoring the USD, glad I went to Japan late October/November, 2023 – my 3rd trip. But with the increased prices of JR Passes, Hotels, and traveling to the cities and the surrounding areas I wanted to see, I really felt it's easier and cheaper to travel and navigate in Vietnam than Japan. But I must admit, Tokyo is awesome on so many levels! I did Tokyo, Kanazawa, Fukuoka and back to Tokyo. Hopefully I can go back to VN in April/May '24

    I would say the difference in hotel cost is even more than 2x between Vietnam and Japan. For $50 a night in VN, even in a central area you can get a nice large room on a high floor, kinda ballin'. Meanwhile $100 a night in Japan would just get you a pretty standard (kinda small) hotel room if you're staying in a central area, not really ballin'.
