In this video we’ll be doing a tour of the Izu Velodrome, which is the indoor velodrome that Japan will use for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The velodrome is actually located in Izu, Shizuoka, which is a bit far away from Tokyo with some limited access and narrow/congested roads. We just so happened to be visiting the area during a weekend cycling trip with some other cycling friends, and we decided to come in and do a little tour.
Here’s a link to the playlist for all videos from our Izu cycling trip.
It was Thuong’s first time ever seeing a velodrome, and it was my first time seeing an indoor track. I’ve ridden numerous outdoor tracks in the US and keirin tracks in Japan, but this facility was completely different, and really impressive.
Hopefully we can make it back one day to watch an event live. Ideally we’d like to make it to watch the Olympics, but it seems like the seating will be pretty limited..
