    Dude you might need to be careful with showing peoples faces who have not consented to being on camera if you even get into an establishment. This may be why you got rejected. you need to do something more formal with the owners.

    なんだか清らかしすぎて面白くないなあ…私の知っている50年前の新宿は、もちろんヤマビシのバッジをつけたスーツ姿でガニ股歩きのヤクザの方が沢山いたのに。道はヘドだらけで汚く、フーテン(これは古語かな？)が何処にも居た。つまり、怪しい汚い街、が新宿であって、カッコイイ！を目指す自称大都会人の田舎者は六本木辺りに行ったのではないかな？日本全国、夜の新宿カラーになった今はもう新宿を珍しがるお上りさんはガイジンさんしかいないのではないでしょうか？
    思えばこの頃、私の彼女は麻布生まれの麻布育ちで、さぞやこの界隈の面白い所をデートスポットとして案内してくれる、と思ったら全く知らなくてビックリした。世の中案外そんなものなんだなあと思った。

    The problem is that some shops advertise the all you can drink plan but then charge ridiculous fees per drink afterwards. These shops tend to be run by the yakuza or the newer mobs. If you try to contest it then they will assault you. There's been some videos lately that were taken in secret that revealed this practice and gave evidence for the police to be able to prosecute. Since you're in Kabukicho, which is famous for being run by the mob, then I can see why they don't want to have you filming inside. I've been to many izakayas that wouldn't care one way or the other. Then there's also the general sense of privacy and avoiding photographing people in public. I try to photograph the crowded trains and other situations like that with a still camera and my wife still gets embarrassed and tries to stop me despite understanding why I do it.
