Hey everyone! We visited the Kiyomizu Buddhist temple in the eastern part of Kyoto, Japan. It was a perfect day weather wise and there were so many tourists. I started up the stairs and stopped to make a prayer before proceeding to take footage throughout the beautiful walkway.

History:
The Kiyomizu temple (清水寺(きよみずでら) was founded in year 778, during the Nara period and at some point in time around 1633, the building were reconstructed. As you walk up the temple, you’ll notice the beautiful breathtaking views of eastern Kyoto in the distance. The architecture is famous because the main parts of the temple were built off a steep cliff. The platform alone is supported by 139 pillars without using a single nail! Quite impressive if you ask me and I was honored to be present at this beautiful place.

Fun Facts:
There is a famous proverb in Japanese, “The moment one takes a bold decision to with no possibility of turning back.”日本には、”清水の舞台から飛び降りる”という、ことわざがあります。これは、思い切って物事を決断する、という意味です。 More similarly, to take the plunge. Legend says that during the Edo period, people believed that if they jumped off the Kiyomizu temple off the cliff, their dreams would come true! I’m not sure if is true or not, but from 1694 to 1864, there were 234 jumpers, with an 85% survival rate. However, after 1872, jumping was banned.
