Panorama Train KIRARA (叡山電鉄 展望列車きらら), a 900 series train of Eizan Electric Railway, attracts many tourists around autumn every year. This time we traveled from Demachiyanagi Station, the starting station, to Kurama Station(京都 – 出町柳駅→京都 – 鞍馬駅), the ending station. The illuminated section was the “Maple Tunnel (もみじのトンネル)” between Ninose and Ichihara(二ノ瀬駅 = 市原駅) on Eizan Electric Railway’s Kurama Line, where we enjoyed the scenery for a short period of about one minute. The train was running slowly and with the interior lights turned off, so it was very easy to see from the train windows.
Kuramadera Temple (鞍馬寺) is located near Kurama Station, and the famous Kibune Shrine (貴船神社) is located near Kibune-guchi Station, one station away from Kurama Station, making it a great place for sightseeing!

💡Experience
★The best time to view the autumn foliage is from mid to late November, and the illumination is from sunset to around 9:00 p.m.
★The Panorama Train timetable has fewer trains from Monday to Friday than on weekends and holidays.
★The interior of the train glowed gold as it passed through the illuminated section.
★Panorama trains have more windows than regular trains, so passengers could enjoy the scenery more.
★The “Kirara” observation train had eight outward-facing seats near the center of each car.
★The train was very cold around Kurama when the autumn leaves are in full bloom, so you will need a coat.
★Many tengu (long-nosed goblins) were displayed at Kurama Station, the last stop of the train.
